Here is a question that needs an answer from someone much more knowledgeable
than I am. When a seed germinates, does it use any oxygen as part of the
process. It does not require light. Does it need oxygen? I am talking about
the very initial part of the process wherein you see the root just coming out
of the seed casing. Not leaf development.

 Marv,
To initiate germination you need water, oxygen and correct temperature. Rice
and "cat o nine tail" seeds are exceptions to the oxygen rule.
