I guess the copper sulfate in the cat or dog food is in trace amounts.
Copper sulfate is used in septic systems to stop root growth from entering
field lines or the old clay tile that was used years ago. I had a root
problem two years ago and covered my septic tank with copper sulfate to
protect it from the large maple tree near by. I had to dig it up again when
other roots calapsed the clay tile further down the line. The copper sulfate
does work on roots so be careful.
