Re: Starting early-reply

Mike:

I spent last Sunday at Tim's growing sites in Bradenton, FL. He has some great
looking plants coming along nicely. Hopefully, Tim will respond and fill you
in on his progress. He certainly has the jump on me, I'll admit!

My site will be ready within 2 weeks and I expect to have seedlings set out by
the third week in Feb. I have a lot to do between now and then to meet that
deadline.

The weather here in Orlando is a bit cooler than the area near Tim. He is able
to set out a little earlier than I am. Being more coastal, he is less likely
to frost at his latitude.

There is a big difference in temps between Orlando and Atlanta. You will
probably have to check with your ag office for earliest planting times, then
use that for your set out date if you plan to start seedlings indoors.

After checking with the ag office here in Seminole County, they told me this
year will be a mild winter, and gave me the go ahead for planting anytime
after the full moon in Feb. My almanac says that's Feb 11th. He is right about
the mild winter, we've had no frosts so far this winter. So, I guess I'll be
pretty much on target.

Last night, we had a terrible wind and rain storm. I was certainly glad I had
no plants out. I am praying that Tim's plants made it through OK.

That's about it from Orlando. Good luck with your Spring planting and keep us
posted on your progress.

For all you northerners, our state fair runs Feb 5-15th! See you there!
