Beth,
To germinate seeds we use a 5-gallon squat nursery pot. The bottom is cut out
and replaced with a screen. We use a 60 watt light bulb. The top is covered
with a piece of 1/4'' plexiglass. This keeps the temperature at a constant
90-95 degrees. At this time of the year it is a good idea to test germinate
some seeds you have no use for. This will get you off to a good start in the
spring. I find germinating at 90-95 degrees, I can get seeds to sprout in two-
four days with almost 100% germination. I will lightly sand the tip and edges
of the seeds. Watering the seeds is done with a spray bottle. I also put a
thermometer in the germinating box, If it gets to hot you can move the
plexiglass a bit. I do not freeze my seeds.
