I have spoken to the coordinators of all five weigh-off sites to be
directly included in the "Southern Cup" competition,
Ron Johnson, Moorseville, NC
George Killgore, Allardt, TN
Billy Meadows, WV
Ed Weeks, Raleigh, NC
Marv Meisner, Altoona, PA
- and they have assured me co-operation in getting weigh-off results to
me to help in determining the champion. I have decided to simply state
as the rules that if your pumpkin is officially weigh-off at any of
these sites, having passed their own set of rules, then you are in the
hunt for the cup. If you have weighed your pumpkin elsewhere you must
bring that to my attention yourself. I have yet to decide on the time
restrictions in getting me weights. At some point we will have to
determine the winner and have their name etched on the cup after which
the competition is closed (even if we find a bigger pumpkin.) If you
weigh-off in a fashion other then a official site we ask that it be with
a county Extension office. I would like documentation in the form of a
photograph and
a letter signed by the county agent stating that the pumpkin was in good
shape and that it weighed the amount stated. This information could be
faxed to me. I will give detailed information on this later. Does anyone
have any objections to this set of rules so far?
I have also asked these site coordinators for pumpkin records of past
weigh-offs in order to construct an all-time top l00 list of southern
pumpkins. If anyone has any information on officially weighed southern
pumpkins please get it to me.
