I think they are talking about diameter measurements, not depth. Of course, I
may be all wet. Much of the information we share on this group is open to
interpretation. When in doubt, go back to the source.
What the hay, we are planting pumpkins, not digging graves! I hope they meant
diameter! It stands to reason; we don't TILL down that far, why would we be
required to dig that far down before planting?
I plan to concentrate my nutrients, soil enhancers, manure and compost in a
circle about 10' diameter from the base of the seedling. Top dressing other
areas can be done as the seedling grows. I refuse to dig deeper than 2 feet.
I'll let you know how this works for us.
