I know some people who have used shredded paper in their garden. Some use
regular newspaper as a mulch to control weeds and then just till it in in the
fall. Newspaper is not much different than sawdust. The only real problem I am
aware of is that paper is almost 100% carbon. In order for it to break down it
needs nitrogen. If you don't put some additional nitrogen in the garden or
compost pile, the breakdown of the carbon uses the nitrogen in your garden and
can deplete it. I posted the question just to see how many people are using it
and if there was anyone opposed to it. I am thinking that my paper shredder
may be a new source, as yet not utilized by me, of organic matter for my
garden. When you think about it, shredded paper isn't really that much
different than using leaves.
