Mike,
I agree with you. Ms. Jaussi's information was extremely interesting and it
leads us to more questions. There is incredible untapped information out
there that we could all enjoy and use. Individually we don't have the
resources or networks or contacts to bring the information to the list. Some
intuitive extrovert (aka. know-it-all) probably bounced the irradiation issue
out in jest in some off the wall imaginative junk mail that sparked a
listmember (cudos to Jonathan) to make contact with a wonderful expert who
sent us this nice e-mail. We now have Ms. Jaussi's e-mail address and may
contact her for information about USDA pumpkin experts or plant physiologists
at the Beltsville, MD complex. Who knows? Beth Rado and Joe Mills might even
get invited to tour the place:) ! So as not to offend her (intuitive
extroverts are insensitive and offending), we should choose our best to
contact her and thank her.
Collectively we can grow mountains. Pumpkin growing is a team thing! Every
team member is valuable in some way. Do quitters help the team? This is a
rhetorical question not an accusation.
If it takes 15 years of irradiating pumpkins to get the 2000 lber, I think it
ought to be legal in any pumpkin competition. Radiation is extremely
important to pumpkin growers! I'll be out there risking my neck in that solar
radiation every day to get a heavy one.
I'm in this for fun, also. If I get a 1069 lb World Record, that will be
fun. Anything over 70 lbs will be fun for me. I am going to try not to
disappoint Chris Anderson. He was so gracious to send me these great seeds.
I wish I knew how to cut, paste and forward. It would put this all in
perspective.
Patrick Veltman
PS. I love you and respect you Mike, but sometimes I just need a swan neck
hoe!
