Opportunity Knocks

Well, the guys here did it. We have formed the Pennsylvania Giant Pumpkin
Growers Association. Membership is open to anyone with $15.00. There have been
about three meetings and last week it was finalized. We are working on a
newsletter (not me) and other things to make it worthwhile to belong. Right
now all you get is a chance to be a charter member. That means that 20 years
from now, when it is huge, one can say, "I was a charter member." The founding
group consists of about 15 diehards who intend to put PA on the map and who
will, of course, blow the fellows to our north away, provided they keep
sharing their seeds with us. At least two people from here will be attending
the Ottowa Gathering of Pumpkin Nuts (Since Gus is not online I guess it is
fair to say that) in order to get the straight scoop for us, the Canadian
secrets. We will be working here as a GPC site with loose ties to Joe Mills
and his hot weather growing group. I think we can refer to them as the "hot
air balloon boys." Also we are planning to make an appearance in New York CIty
for the annual regatta. Joe Mills is our intended pilot (Can you swim Joe and
are you still in?)

The weather in PA is looking up. All is not lost. Most of us have survived the
long winter (so far). I am constructing my Pumpkin Dome. I am calling it the
"Home of the Giants." I got in an extra supply of Joe Mill's Zoo Doo. I
probably will be throwing in a little cat food and dog food in deference to
GBPumpkin.

Not much online from the Australians. They must be finding out that it takes
more than just wanting to, to grow the big one. Pumpkinwitch has been laying
low. The big hitters are just lurking. The 1997 champ is trying to corner the
California chicken manure market. I just keep watching Holland's pumpkin
videos over and over and over and...........................
