Thanks for the offer to borrow the metal detector.   I rented a metal
detector the following day, went through the pile manure-fork by
manure-fork, checking each load with the detector.  No luck, (or as I told
my 9 yr old daughter who was helping me, bad luck) so I guess I'll let it
sit till spring,  then sift it out.
  I'm also going to keep my eyes open for the folks who come around each
spring to search newly plowed fields with high-end metal detectors for
Civil War relics.    Figure I'd trade them permission to search the patch
and yard for their help.  Hope we find it!  We went out and bought new
bands this week, but it's not the same...
