Tom,
Did the hole fill from rain water ???or is the ground saturated and the winter
water table is at that level. With out oxygen the leaves won't break down . So
are there periods that water isn't standing in the hole.??? Some think that if
you don't loosen the ground near the hole that in clay soil the roots just might
circle like in a pot. The idea is to trust your instincts and like the rest of
us fanatics you make sure you cover all the bases and create the best possible
growing conditions.
