I took a class in plant biology a few years back and we talked about
genetics for about a week. During these discussions we talked about growth
media in which the media is designed for the specific plant the is going to be
used in the experiments. All the nutrients are so precisely controlled it is
not funny. This media is used because the plants a propagated from a single
cell and take weeks to even be big enough to see.
So playing God is already being done.
It would be very costly to do this on a large scale, But growing giants is
costly.
Maybe this technique could be used to reproduce such great plants such as
the mother of the 1092.
