This "turning up " of the vine. Does it try to turn up more the more you try to hold it down? Like it just keeps getting worse and worse . I've had the same problem as have a few others that I've talked to and our local weigh-off. After a while does the vine then snap off as in main vine and or side vines? We came to the conclusion that it was a comdination of a couple things for US. First was the high fertility of the soil along with A LACK OF MOISTURE. The lack of moisture was the major factor for me. We went 29 days with out rain in 1997 and the vine ends we're snapping off right and left. leaves we're litterally burning right off. We were trying to water but just wasn't enough. started watering heavily every 3 to 4 days and the symptoms went away. Damage was already done to the plant but it still produced a nice 500# with only 35 leaves left on the plant. Hope this helps

able to measure Ross's pumpkin until yesterday. I can now report it is 130
Kg. He still has a lead on me but I figure it is only about 5 days and it
aint over till the fat lady sings.Nimitz is still progressing well, if it continues for another week at this
rate I expect it will be bigger than last years. The ends of the vines have for some time been turning up at the ends and
almost stopped growing. I have tried to keep them growing by bending them
down flat and covering with soil as they have not reached the end of the
plot.
Has anyone experienced this?
Is it because the goodness is going into the fruit so the vine stops
or could it be a lack of nutrient? The R1 fruit (George) on the Ryan vine has stopped growing now and the vines
now seem to have responded by growing again and producing more fruit.Stewart

Subject: Tony's updateNo good news here.......
My 2 hopefulls have stopped growing at 62 inches and I have no idea why.
One has turned orange but the other is still yellow.
I have another that I have ignored and now it is swelling fast.
Maybe I'm not out of the race yet....hear that John...
Maybe Wendy is right with her no touch method.
John Sargy is doing well....And I wish him luck.
Last year I failed and this one isn't to promising. I know how other
growers feel when everything goes wrong.
It is like waiting for Chritmas but then someone cancels it.
You get all hyped up....and then .....nothing......
It is something you go through by yourself.....an inner pain that sets you
back.
And next season you try not to get your hopes up to high.
An emotional roller coaster.....yea...that's pumpkin growing for ya.Any way the gourds are doing well and the corn is amazing.
