           Here are some recommendations for getting started:

1) Get Don Langevins book: How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins II.  He has
2 books on the subject but the second is definitely better in my opinion.
    to order call: 1-800-985-7878.  This is a must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2) Get your soil tested - ph should be 6.5 - 6.8.  Adding Organic matter as
you mentioned a very good idea.

3) Don't buy seed!! Just ask someone on this list they will be happy to give
you some seed with very good genetics for free.  I would be glad to send you
some.

For now that is enough.  Obviuosly there is lot more to talk about but the
book answers many questions specific to raising ag's.
