Re: deer and pumpkin size

Doug,
My atlas shows Atlanta at about 33 deg North, we are about 35 deg South so I
wouldn't think the climate here would be that much different from Atlanta
(maybe I am wrong) one of the girls at work is from Atlanta so I will ask.
The biggest local fruit is approaching 600 lbs so that should be do-able.
I was looking at a farm today, in the mountains with a trout stream (nice
but about 1 hours commute) and feral deer have munched the corn down to
about 2 ft from the ground but have not touched the pumpkins or squash.

Dear List, There are a lot of whitetailed deer in my area, last year was
my first year growing A G pumpkins and they did not bother them. Was I
just lucky or do they not bother them? I live in Carrollton, Georgia and
it is located 50 miles west of Atlanta, Ga. A new Georgia record was grown
this year by Mike Nepereny at 420 lbs. and I grew a 316 lber. Could some
of the experienced growers guess how big these pumpkins would have been if
they had of been grown up north where the climate is cooler and more
favorable. Thanks, Doug Adams.
