I really think that you have to look at one other factor. When you only
have 15 people growing pumpkins in a state, there might be less of a
chance that someone will pop a biggie. Some of it is numbers. I think
that our night time temps do us the most damage, however. I read once
that the pumpkin does most of it's growing at night. If you consider the
fact that our night time temp falls very fast here, then you might have
part of it. Heck, I was able to grow a 360 pound pumpkin my first year
doing everything wrong. That was in the coldest part of the state
(Logan). I say grow where you are.
