Dolly saved ????

There were largeish fractures along Dolly''s stem from the pumpkin to
the main vine. In Dolly's growth spurt in the recent rain the main vine
from Dolly to the terminal has been pushed back significantly by the
side of Dolly more than the spring support could manage. This has put a
lot of pressure on the stem, pulling it away from the pumpkin causing
the cracking. I have, for better or worse (hopefully the former) cut off
the main vine from Dolly onwards. This means that I have lost a lot of
foliage but there is now no pressure on Doll's stem at all. I have
painted the cracks with bacterial sealant pruning paste.

Please somebody - tell me I have done the right thing!!!!
