Pumpkinguy nematode follow-up

Pumpkinguy:

My understanding is that nematodes live in a moist environment such as
the soil or inside vine stems. Unfortunately, this means that they
are probably not a good choice for being a barrier on the surface of
the vine. They are best suited to eradicate the borers who have already
made their way to the promised land.

There are some other postings that discuss suitable barriers (such as
sheer floating row covers draped over hoops). Also, burying the vines
will reduce the available surface area for borers.

There may be no sure-fire organic way to prevent borers, but simply to
minimize them. For growers who are seeking perfect conditions,
perhaps a topical insecticide is necessary to prevent entrance in the
first place. I might suggest rotenone dust as an organic insecticide
that is a good general bug killer.

Frank,
I am all for organic techniques as opposed to chemical treatments,
however, I am opposed to allowing my vine to be damaged by a borer and then
go try to kill it. Are you saying that you can treat the vine , before
damage, with Nematodes? In this case , I prefer to have no damage to my
vines.
