Re: Seed auctions

dear list,
i believe the principal goal of the seed auction  is sound to raise
money for a worthy cause is a great idea we all want bragging rights for
the largest pumpkin or squash or we wouldn't be doing all the  work
involved in growing them it  isn't any differant than a sports fan
paying 50 dollars for a 2x3 card of their favorite player   in don
langevin's book i believe there was a section devoted to the controversy
of proven /unproven seed that the genetic codes for large pumpkins were
in all atlantic giant seed would it not take all our seeds back to
howard dills first seeds?  now that i've committed myself to this logic
i find myself to be a hypocrite i don't want to use seed from a
commercial seed catalog i want a good proven seed from a good grower
that gives me the best chance to grow the biggest pumpkin i can and it
tears me up t see seeds go for more money than i'm willing to spend and
with that in mind i wish to thank the growers that have helped me  in my
quest for the big one that didn't ask for or get payment for their time
