Re: Seed auctions
Well said Beth,
Thank you for hitting the nail on the head. While corporate
sponsorships come easy to some, it just isn't enough for others. We are
FAR from the largest paying Association out there, I dont even think the
PGPGA is in the top ten for prize moneys. I will say this though, the
Auction we held last year did help offset advertising costs, did help
increase our prize structure to include some fun loving categories as
Ugliest and prettiest AG's.
Another note to add to people saying these auctions are almost illegal
with no patent didnt get facts. If you go to the PGPGA auction site, you
will see that the Pennsylvania Giant Pumpkin Growers Association did get
the permission of Howard and Danny Dill before proceeding with the
auction, as we contacted them, and also put a link to thier site,
http://www.howarddill.com.
Free seeds are always available through me, and they are all of great
genetic background. If you want free seed, please send to the address at
the bottom a postage paid self addressed bubble pack like the other 124
people have done since November of last year. I have plenty of seed that
I will part with AT NO CHARGE. But in the same breath, if you wish to
participate in a seed auction and make a donation to a worthy (meaning
the continuation of a great weigh off) cause, drop by the seed auctions
and make a bid. If it goes for 300 bucks, outstanding for that group! I
think that not only the person who made the bid can feel good about
getting a great seed but also knowing they helped further one of the
dozens of weigh offs around the country.
Here is my address for FREE seeds of good genetic background. Good luck
to all this year, and if you want to participate in an auction, please
do so, if you choose not to, that is fine too. Please remember one
thing, unless you have tried to assemble a weigh off like the ones you
have been been to in years past and know what these people go through
trying to get money raised for the function, please sit down and try to
think about it one time. Everyone who does these are hard working people
with lives outside of pumpkin growing and pumpkin weigh off organizing,
and to my knowledge, still do not recieve one nickel of pay to do it.
I want to thank all who donated last year to the PGPGA Auction, and
hopefully we will have ours around and going in about 2-3 weeks, so stay
tuned. As the guys from Bartyles and James used to say.. "We thank you
for your support">..
