I think you and MB are saying the same thing.
Let's say pumpkin A weighed 900 lbs and contained 300 seeds.
10 of those 300 seeds are grown and 5 of them produce wonderful plants that grow
900+ lb'ers
The remaining 290 seeds are now labeled 'proven' by pumpkin growers.
Seeds from the 900+ lbrs are not considered 'proven' as they may be of different
parentage, depending on the source of pollen.
