Auctions vs Raffles
As part of the Ottawa St. Lawrence Growers Association membership you are
automatically entered into the the clubs seed raffle. Each member receives
3 seeds drawn at random*. We have seeds from some of last years top
pumpkins. Every member has an equal chance. In addition, members receive
our informative newspaper. All the monies raised support our newspaper
production and our weighoff.
Detailed membership can be found on our webpage at:

In addition, we also run the seed bazaar at the Guelph seminar. A common
comment from seminar attendees is that not everyone get a chance at the top
seeds. Supply is limited. To give everyone a chance, we also hold a raffle
and an aution at the seminar. These funds support the seminar and it gives
every attendee the chance of acquiring the seed they desire.
No system is perfect. Last year a seed that sold at auction on the west
coast sold for over 100US, at the seminar it went for $75can. We have tried
to provide participants with as many different opportunities as possible but
I am sure that someone may have another suggestion. That fact is each group
has a limited supply.
I would like to thanks the many growers who have supported our organization
by donating seeds. These donations help us run a quality weighoff and
publish what we think is an informative newsletter.
