Re: Overlooked seeds?
I have to chime in here.. I grew the Lloyd 935, and the tips on my main
and allot of the secondaries blew out, better described by saying it
looked like a rabbit had taken a clean sweep cut on it, but usually hung
by a thread when I came home. I attribute this to tremendous plant vigor
and soil that could be high in certain things such as nitrogen. Plants
can only build the cells at a certain rate, something which we push to
the limit.
I had 2 plants in the same patch, and the 935 blew all the tips, while
the 815 did not, but did give me stem splits. Maybe my soil was over
prepared, but soil tests gave me normal readings. Blowing tips is a
thing we are going to have to deal with if we continue to push the AG to
its limits. In years past we have dealt with such problems that seemed
new like ribbon and flat vines, and blowing tips is just another we can
add to the list. How to prevent it? Maybe not be as aggressive with the
fertilizers if we notice the blowing tips, but that is just a semi
educated guess.
If you want to see a blown tip, check out this pic on the PGPGA web
site, the tip that is blown is all the way to the right, and you can see
the stringee remnants of the blown tip. Yeah.. it was a silver bullet
plant , I culled allot of fruit from this plant. you will know what I
mean..

The pic shows the vine, and the tip usually is just dangling from that
little stringee thing.. almost like a clean cut vine, but with the
effects of an exploding cigar!!
