Whats the general feeling out there.................is heavy
to the charts strictly limited to genetics or is it manipulated in
the soil..........or both..................any hunches??
Im sure this isn't new news to most but
weather has much to do with it. The summer heat/drought of '99 brough us
light weighing pumpkins if they were orange (yeah,I know...another
reason for green !). Seriously..the drought/heat did this in the
Northeast. I assume artificial watering cannot replace the overall
effects of a good rain or this wouldn't have happened as most just
watered more because of the drought. Until we include shape
info in the most widely used and respected collaboration of pumpkin
results (AGGC) one may be reading too much into an "above the
charts" pumpkin.......just because its 10% heavy doesn't mean its
parent seed is prone to heavy pumpkins....it could just be one of those
truck tire shapes with no real cavity. Personally? I think its
genetic and up to the grower and the weather not to screw it
up.................2cents...................G
