Dear Fellow Growers,
Each year, the Central Wisconsin Pumpkin Growers host a huge fall festival
known as the "Nekoosa Giant Pumpkin Fest". The Nekoosa Giant Pumpkin Fest was
started in 1998 with an estimated 1,000 spectators in attendance. Over the
last 4 years, the Fest had swelled in numbers greatly to an estimated 14,000
spectators in 2002.
The Fest is centered on the weigh-in of giant pumpkins, squash,
and other large vegetables, but also is home to a car show, old tractor show,
a craft show, along with a farmers market and flea market. We have tried to
make this an event in which the whole family can enjoy.
To help offset rising costs to host this growing event, the
Central Wisconsin Pumpkin Growers is going to hold its first annual seed
raffle. All money raised from this raffle will be used to help promote the
sport of growing pumpkins (such as our annual grower's seminar in the spring)
and to offset new costs of the pumpkin festival. The seed raffle will consist
approximately of 200-300 seeds from many different pumpkins. Highlights
include: 582 Hester 01, 790 Daletas 00, 1230 Daletas 01, 2-1074 Calai 02, 708
LaRue 01 (very scarce seed and grew 955 Larue 02), 1337 (World Record) and
1058 Houghton 02, 805 Pukos 00, 780 Eaton 98, 845 Nesbitt 01, and 2-243 Welty
2002 (same cross as 801 Stelts!!!). Plus many more great seeds and many to be
donated yet!!! Anyone that wants to view the whole list of seeds or had any
questions, email Casey Neuville at neuville@wi-net.com. The list of seeds is
growing daily and soon we will have most of them in. Please read through the
rules and regulations.
Rules and Regulations are as follows:
1. Seed raffle will be done in a draw type format to be held sometime in mid
March with certain members of the CWPG present to witness this event. Members
present will be Tim Johnson (President), Clarence Koch (seed raffle
coordinator), and Casey Neuville (promotions and raffle coordinator). Draw
date and exact member attendance details will be released when known.
2. Participating entrants can enter as follows: 2 chances for $10 or 5 chances
for $20. All dollar amounts received should be US currency. We would prefer
checks or money orders, but cash will be accepted. We are not responsible for
any lost or stolen envelopes that contain cash. Please make checks or money
orders out to Central Wisconsin Pumpkin Growers (C.W.P.G.) and send along with
the names of all entrants, email, home address, and phone number to Clarence
Koch, 2311 60th St. So., Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494. Entries postmarked after
March 1, 2003 will not be accepted.
3. Entries are limited to 5 CHANCES PER PERSON to make it fair for all
growers. However, there is no limitation on the number of family members than
can enter.
4. Every chance in the drawing is a chance for one seed. As an example, it's
possible an entrant with the maximum of 5 entries could win 5 different seeds
with those 5 chances. Depending on the number of entrants, everyone could very
well go home with something.
5. All members of the C.W.P.G. affiliated with this raffle in any way may not
enter, nor any of their family members. Any person that donated seeds and
entered the raffle cannot win his/her own seeds or seeds donated.
6. All seeds donated will be raffled.
7. Winners will either be contacted via email or phone. The list of winners
can also be viewed at www.cwpg.org (which is still currently under
construction, but should be up by drawing date).
The Central Wisconsin Pumpkin Growers would like to extend a very
special THANKS Howard and Danny Dill for letting us proceed with this raffle.
Also, we THANK each and every person who took the time to help us out by
donating seeds to our raffle. The C.W.P.G. greatly appreciates what you all
have done to help us to make this a successful event. Thank you to all
contributors! Best of luck in 2003 and good luck to everyone who enters the
raffle!!
Sincerely,
Clarence Koch and Casey Neuville
