Deer away

Happy New Year,
I have been sitting on the side lines.
I wish to pass on to any one having problems with deer.
I will be trying something new this year to keep deer off my farm. An
Agway representative meets with farmers from Massachusetts, and Rhode
Island. Some of these farmers could not afford purchasing an electrical
system to keep deer out of there patch.
Place bailing twine around the patch you wish to protect. Place the
twine about 5 to 6 feet off the ground. Tie white rags to the bailing
twine every couple of feet. The rags should hang at least two feet.
This idea is based on corn farmers. Deer usually do not like to passing
through something that moves or makes some type of noise.
Apparently the deer will walk beside the twine until it finds the end to
enter the field. I do know that the deer will walk around my sweet corn
patch until it finds open space.
I have about 40 head of deer that would end up destroying many acres of
pumpkins per year. Last night one of my nature (hunters) lovers saw one
buck and two small does in my old cow corn fields. This area was used
for an event we call Halloween Ghoul Rides. I will be trying this for
1997.
Now if you wish to attract deer to a certain area- try using uncooked
HOT DOGS.
