It is very light in colour (cream) and I have heard
that the light coloured ones are heavier than the dark, is that true?

Light color usually indicates that it still is in the growing stage and is
not ready to give up anytime soon. As far as weight I have never head that
it affects that. Heavy ribs usually indicate additional weight, they from in
the later stages on some Atlantic's.
