Naval Promotion Announcement

Jim:

Farmer Gus and Joan are up to their collective asses in alligators working
on the January newsletter and do not have time to ward off the verbal
activity from the warlike diplomatic corps of the US growers based in
Connecticut.

You are hereby promoted to Captain of the Wellington Warriors and Admiral
of the Lake Ontario Fleet. Do what you will to keep them at bay!

We will win even though the main naval battle will probably be fought in
their urban pond in what they call "The Big Apple".

They are trying to get Don Langevin involved actively as a participant in
the final battle. You may be able to "reach" him. He is vulnerable. (He
sells a lot of books in Canada and his great-grandfather was Canadian
born).

Their main provocateur, Wayne Hackney, is a very worthy adversary. Wayne's
grandmother was a Saunders and the Saunders clan as we know is of very high
intellect, charismatic, charming, etc. etc. True leaders! It is possible
that the environment he was raised in may have diluted some of these very
positive clan traits.

Don't worry about Western Ontario. Harry Willemse and Pete Geerts in
Sarnia and our new found allies in Port Elgin can take care of that
frontier with no difficulty. Keeping them from getting too aggressive may
be a problem.

You will be known as Captain Wellington and may wear your ceremonial
Wellington Pumpkinfest uniform at your discretion. (For those who have not
seen Jim Ives' uniform - it is orange, is masked and is a cross between
Zorro's, Batman's and Mickey Mouse's). On second thought Jim, maybe you
better keep your uniform in the box for awhile.

Do not distract Wellington Willie (Bill Greer) from his growing in your
early activity. He will be leading our hull growing crew and plans to grow
huge ones that will probably need two motors.

He, with all the other Central Canada growers, will give us a selection of
huge pumpkin hulls that will raise the water level of the Central Park 6
inches if they are all floated at once.

Give them hell!

All the best!
