Duncan,
I don't think suggesting the group try and limit it's public postings to
appropriate material would qualify you as an a**hole. Excessive emails
use up server resources. Once you retrieve your emails from the mail
server, these documents are stored on your local system. This is a waste
of disk space. You need to manually delete each one from the 'Inbox' and
then the 'Deleted' folders to free up this space. This is a waste of
time. I have suggested before using some sort of message prioritization
scheme and still believe in this.
As this list grows ( as I am sure it will ) a natural extension might be
the use of a chat room. There are many out there, some of which have
gardening themes. For those of you who have never used one, it basically
allows you to 'chat' online in real time to one or more other users at a
time. I am sure it would be a kick for many to be able to 'chat' online
with some of the heavy hitters of this group. It's the next best thing
to a phone call (without the cost) and you can send pictures to each
other as well. The software is free and can be downloaded from the
service's web page. All we would have to do is agree upon which chat
room to use and let things progress from there.
Thoughts?
P.S. Don't be too hard on Mike and Carolyn. I know them personally and
they are great people. Good looking too.
