Re: Pat Fishman-expatriot of TEXAS

Yes, you are right about the heat and we have humidity to match it in the
summer. We have so much rain (not like most people would think about TEXAS
) that I am worried that if I grow the big ones they will pop! I am about
60 miles from Flatonia and have oak and hickory woods and pastures. I have
a big old plot set out.

I am a transplant also (from Arizona - big change in weather where you have
to do a rain dance for every blade of grass). I'd love to get a competition
started here in this county where the rednecks need an attitude change.
They feel: If ya cain't ride it or eat it - it ain't nuthin'.

Do you think I stand a change of raising some big ones without them rotting
or bursting? Also, as they get bigger to you put them on a pallet or
something to keep them off the ground?

I am so excited to start. Does hot weather stop the growth, because you
mentioned starting in January. You WERE kidding weren't you?

What temperature does the ground have to be to germinate?
