Re: Pat Fishman-expatriot of TEXAS

Pat,
Those big thunderboomers form from all that lovely Gulf of Mexico humidity. I
miss it. You can smell the water in the air!
I think you can grow them there. I think in would be an emotional
rollercoaster to have one grow so fast that it burst. My tomatoes did it this
summer. We should all experience a few emotional rollercoasters. They help
US grow. Face your fears Pat grow Atlantic Giants!
Go to the World Class Giant Pumpkin Home Page and read 10 Steps to a Giant
Pumpkin and Starting the Giant Pumpkin Seedling.

I'm not sure about your temperatures in East Texas. The growers up north
around the Texas New York border seem to grow the big pumpkins. They put
theirs out in early May and cover them with window boxes to keep the frost off
the plants. Does it frost in Eagle Lake? Maybe you should plant yours in
shade to keep it cool during the summer? I was discouraged by my southern
latitude and poor prospects for a 500+ lber until I realized that Chris
Anderson in Moraga, CA is at approximately the same latitude as me in
Richmond, VA. Chris grew the 977lb World Champion last year.
I've heard stories about redfish & speckled trout being picked up by water
spouts on the coast and rained down on people in thunder showers. That's
where I wanta be!
Good luck!
Patrick
