I had an unusually virus of sorts hit my plant last year and I am trying
to figure it out so as to have a healthier one this year. Here is the
description of the problem: The leaves began to brown out starting with
the most mature leaves and slowly moving up the main vine. The leaves
did not wilt but their stem eventually collapsed into a guey mess. I
worried that the guey mess would eventually rot the main vine but it did
not seem to go past the stem. I spent a good deal of time cutting this
mess away and applying captan but I have my thought that it most likely
would have not attacked the main vine even without this precaution. It
traveled maybe l5 feet or so out by the end of the season and possibly
down a side vine or two. PUMKINGUY thought it might have been a desease
called phytopthora. Anyone out there know about this or have similar
problems as I did? Any thoughts on just how to avoid this phenomenon?
