Al - my guess is that people plant the most recent seeds because they
represent unexplored territory. Planting old ones may also suggest a kind
of indirect competition... it is like asking, "why should I do better with
an Orr 887 than the experts?".
In reality, of course, every seed is different so it is not about repeating
experience. Still, there is something to be said for the arrow of time...
if our breeding program is really working, then the most recent *should*
somehow be "best".
