Dan-your first paragraph is a whole new concept to me.I have never met a
grower who thought like that,but maybe some do.
Yes,"the most recent should be best",I agree with you,if both parents are
ones that you would plant on their individual merit and the recent
generation is a respectible fruit.
It's a good thing we are all uncertain how to best select seeds because
diverse ideas lead to a wider choice being grown.I find no matter what I
deciede to plant,things never work out the way I had hoped.Now basically I
like to see generations of successful ancestors to a fruit with good
physical characteristics,but this is only the start.The plant needs
conditions just right for the full potential to be realized.These conditions
can all be provided by the grower except for the climate limitation factor,I
think.
