Tony,
I put a spreader truck load of chicken manure on my garden (60'x150')
each Fall near the end of October. I try to disk is in and then plant
winter rye for a cover crop and green manure to plow under in the spring.
Works good for me. I had 5 pumpkins that went over 500 lbs. last year, and
five more that went over 400 lbs. all came off four different plants.
