Rick,
Plant size and fruit ratio...size of the plant usually determines wether or
not the plant would be a good candidate for multiple fruit....which swings
back how big does the plant have to be for one large single fruit?? .....I
left two pumpkins per plant for the first time this year and both fruit
were 600+.......and the other two were 584 and 589.......now the question
is if they were single fruit would they have been that much
bigger.??.....of course in competition any extra weight is valuable.....but
does this out weigh the calm feeling knowing you have a shock
absorber.......My hunch is single fruit may not be all its cracked up to be
on a large plant....Heres why as farmers you and i know that if you do not
thin out the apples you will get a bunch of small apples. And if you leave
one apple it is no way going to equal the poundage if you had left 5
apples......so when you go down to one pumpkin on a large plant is the
excess energy being wasted..............brock
