You make an excellent point with the apples! Wouldn't it be nice if we
knew an average square feet per pumpkin to maximize growth. Like the apple
growers know exactly the ideal number of apples per cubic foot of tree
canopy to maximize their yields. It would be great if we knew for example
that each fruit in the proper position on the plant required say 900 square
feet. Then if you knew you had a big enough plant you could carry
multiple fruits.
Like you said though, the fact that we don't have a true to type consistent
variety its hard to do controlled cultural studies. Its a great wish
though!
