My friend in NY grows pumpkins and squash. Last year, he planted some sweet
mama hard squash at the rear of his dairy barn, and the squash grew downhill
and over a stone wall. Squash were good, but no larger and no different than
when grown flat.

If you have been to Epcot lately, you can see the indoor hydroponic and soil
gardens they have and are getting fantastic results from. Their veggies grow
huge, but mostly zucchini and cukes, etc. I would be willing to bet that their
gardeners and scientists are online.
