Sometimes it's better if an idea or activity isn't embraced and
excercised by the masses. Once you start getting too many people
involved, the sport inevitably starts to lose it's purity. It becomes
money-motivated, companies with unlimited resources competing against
each other, with the unsponsored common man eventually rendered
ineffective and unnoticed. Sabotage is commonplace. The media tramples
it to death, analyzing and exploiting every nuance. In time, most lose
interest and move on to the next fad but the scars remain. In short,
it's just plain no fun anymore.
