Patrick,

This is far from an ignorant question and I've been wondering if my method
will not work for this very reason. If the plant's osmotic absortion path
somehow deselects the I131 atoms I am gong to come out with a lot of
erroneus data. Obviously we are not interested in the iodine metabolism of
the plant like we are when we use this substance for thyroid testing. I am
making the assumption that the iodine atoms will get absorbed with the
water molecules and it will allow me to easily map out where they came from
but trust me I am not sure and that is why I turned to the group. Once
again before I do this I'll be checking with the curcubit experts at
Cornell but I don't want to make too bg a deal out of it simply because
there is such a stigma associated with radiation.
