How many plants?

Plants are like children. How many can you take care of? How much time do you
have? They need plenty of attention. Spraying, pruning, watering etc etc. If I
quit my daytime job I could double my plants.

I'm curious. How many plants do the more successful growers maintain
every year? When I say 'most successful', I mean those that are churning
out 600+ pumpkins consistently. I will be growing 8 plants this coming
season. I know those limited by space don't have much choice but what
about those who have the room?
