GREETINGS TO ALL IN OUR GROUP!
A special thanks to all that have sent seeds my way! Thank you!
I need ideas on preparing my 30 X 90 ft. plot for this upcoming
growing season. To begin with, I have no compost. I haven't
touched this ground since I hauled out the fruit from last year.
Here in the deep south, although not as deep to the south as
Florida growers, maple trees are scarce. Cow and horse manure
are plentiful. I now have a truck to haul this marvelous stuff in.
Bales of hay are also very easy to get. I plan to steal... I mean
borrow a tiller from a neighbor who is away from his home a good
bit. I'm getting soaker hoses (the kind that allows water to weep
through the walls) to bury. I have entertained the thought of getting
a buddy with his backhoe to dig me a few holes to fill up with a
lot of the magical stuff. "Bubba" has a tractor and a disc harrow.
(Sounding good, huh?) I think I'm gonna burn off the lot first to
hopefully rid myself of possible unwanted pests. Comments?
Suggestions? Ideas? How would you folks go about getting this
spot ready?
