Another alternative is a tirehouse/pumpkin warmer. We built a tire cabin
about five years back and the tires hold a lot more heat in than hay because
of the mass. All you do is take some old tires from the trash behind a tire
store, most tire businesses and service stations will be happy to give
permission because they have to pay to dispose of them. Then you lay a
straight row of the biggest ones on their sides in a line where you want a
(semi-permanent) wall/windbreak. Then you shovel dirt into the hole and pound
it into the sides with a sledge hammer or stick, etc. The firmer and better
packed you get the dirt inside each tire, especially at the bottom, the more
stable your wall will be. No foundation is usually needed because the wall is
about 2 feet thick. You will probably want this to be along the North while
the sun comes in from the South. A U-shape or half-circle around your pumpkin
might keep warmth in... it was a great cabin, anyhow. Just a newby, hope
this is not as bad as the dog manure theory or my missing the joke about
"training at high altitudes in a secret location"... I thought you were
really serious! ac
