Re: Space

I am a grower who has no space restrictions, so I don't have a lot of
experience with small plants. I have always thought it would be neat to
see
how big of a pumpkin could be grown on a very small plant. The best
that I
have done was a 318 lb. on a 100 sq. ft. plant that was never taken care
of. I
believe Al Eaton grew a 734 lb. pumpkin on a 435 sq. ft. plant, so it is
possible. Another idea is to allow only the main vine to grow, wind it
around
filling the patch. Set the fruit around 30 ft. out from the base, and
allow the vine to fill the patch. Large plants can still be
productive. I had 5000 lb. of pumpkin on one plant (833.5) that was
4500 sq. ft. This was between about a little over a dozen fruit, but
does show the productivity these plants are capable.
