Flower Problems

I have a question for the list I am sure someone will have the correct
answer. I have an 846 calai that is just now producing female flowers. The
problem I am having is the flower caseing seems very thick and firm and in 1
to 2 days prior to opening the flower caseing half opens causing air, water,
and exc. to get at the stigma. Has anyone on the list experienced these hard
shelled flowers? and if you have does the partial opening pose any
pollination problems. Does anyone know if these hard shelled flowers are a
genetic trait.
