I have seen this done do to trouble with the vine past the
pumpkin....in an effort to save the only fruit that was left on the
plant the grower ended up having to do this same thing....he finished at
650
plus or minus a few pounds....not to bad for Iowa..Anyway that is all I
know about this....i actually saw the fruit at the 600# stage....it
looked a bit strange but it worked!!!
