Pumpkins are still exploding!

I keep going out to my patch excited to watch the growth of the pumpkins to
find the pumpkin split wide open.
I pollinate everything in site, but only half take and then they explode at
soccer ball size or smaller. WHY?
Help would be appreciated, can't handle the disappointment much longer!!
