The rule of thumb is true John, but I beg to differ, as I have a 25 X 25 space
and grow 2 plants each year.. I have had some big pumpkins, and one tremendous
squash. If you prune the unnecessary vines, and stay on top of things, size
really doesnt matter (within reason). The rule used to be 1200 sq ft per plant,
but ask Gary Burke how much space he grew his 1092 on, I think it was around
600 sq ft, and I grew an 879 pound squash in app. 400 sq ft..
