Well, I know some of you have been waiting to hear how I'm
doing, so here it is. My best shot right now is probably my 1009.5
Eaton. I have a ghostly white, perfectly shaped 4 lobe pumpkin set on the
main. I measured it yesterday morning before I left for Ohio, and it was
57", and that was at 20 days after pollination. I measured it again
tonight at about 8:00, and it is now 64" in circumference. It's been dry,
but the last two days it has been raining, so of course I'm getting
worried. My 535* has 2 good ones on it, one on the main, and one on a big
secondary. Both around 50 pounds. Beautiful green. I've got
one on my 445 from last year, at a little over 100#, but it's pretty old.
Hoping for at least 300#, and will probably take to an early festival. My
835 McIntyre is one of the most beautiful plants I've seen, but is was planted
later, and only has one on the main a few days old. I am going to cut my
792 plant in half to give the 835 more room, since the 792 isn't doing that
well, and I only planted it for a pollinator anyway. My 909.5 Lloyd is
starting to get me really mad. It was the first planted, but has nothing
of size on it, because everyting is aborting at about softball size. If
this keeps up, I'm going to cut off about a quarter of the vines to give more
room to my 792 geerts, whish is doing ok, but was planted later. In a
seperate patch, I have another 535* and 734 Marcellus, planted about a foot and
half from each other. The 734 was dug up by a woodchuck right after
transplanting, so I threw a 535* seed next to it in case it died. The 734
made a miraclous recovery, but I didn't have the heart to pull either, since I
didn't expect much out of this site anyway. They're both way behind, about
3' vines, but maybe I'll get something for halloween. I've got one tall
sunflower, about 3.5' now. My long gourds were going like crazy, climbing
up the trees until the birds tried landing on the tips. Should be enough
secondaries for the plant to recover. I've got a few pictures on my
website, taken tonight. It's at: http://home.eznet.net/~farm
