Re: Ciliberto 983/ flat vines
George:
Speculation is rampant on this topic. Since Beth brought this up, I have sent
Dr. Ferrer, my local Ag agent and noted entomologist an e-mail request for
information on flat vines and main vine doubling along with a scanned image
of an AG plant with a flat vine.
I have asked for his opinion on these anomalies and hope that if he doesn't
know for certain, he will forward my e-mail to UF Gainesville for response.
As you know, cucurbits are major cash crops in the South with melons being
the top crop and squash/cukes running close behind. UF Gainesville is a major
ag research school with lots of energy on mosaics and many other serious
cucurbit diseases that threaten this industry. Can't think of a better
resource than that.
Unless Dr. Ferrer is traveling or out on vacation, I should hear back from
him in a few days. Will report his response as soon as it's received.
